
Getting Your PET Blow Molding Lamps Right (Without the Headache)
Look, we’ve all been there. A lamp burns out in the middle of a run, and suddenly your production line is grinding to a halt. The last thing you want to do is spend four hours rewiring an entire oven just to get a replacement part to work. You just want a bulb that fits, heats up, and lets you get back to work. That’s why we build our quartz IR lamps to be “drop-in” replacements. We’ve spent a lot of time making sure they work with about 95% of the machines out there. We keep it simple by focusing on the three things that actually matter: the power, the fit, and the heat. The nitty-gritty on power and fit A lamp isn’t actually “universal” if it blows your transformer the second you flip the switch. We make our tubes in the standard industrial ranges—usually between 230V and 400V—so they play nice with whatever grid or controller you’re running. If you’re using those 400V high-wattage tubes, you get that intense heat needed for fast cycles. Just double-check that your transformers can handle the load so you don’t fry the new lamp. Then there’s the physical fit. This is where most cheap replacements fail. There is nothing more frustrating than a lamp that’s a few millimeters too long or has shaky end-caps. We mill our quartz to tight tolerances. Whether you’re using R7s or SK15 connectors, the fit is snug. No rattling, no shifting—even when the machine is screaming along at top speed. The science of the heat We use high-purity synthetic quartz because these things take a beating. They go from ice cold to blistering hot in seconds, over and over again. To make them even better, we use halogen gas. It basically pushes the tungsten back onto the filament, which lets the lamp run hotter. Why does that matter? Because it shifts the output toward shortwave IR. That’s the stuff that actually penetrates PET plastic quickly, rather than just heating the surface. Some of you might use coated tubes to bounce that heat back toward the preform. It saves energy, which is great, but it also makes the glass itself get much hotter. Just a heads-up: make sure your cooling fans are actually working, or you’ll risk warping the glass. Real-world use These lamps are out there right now replacing OEM parts in Sidel, Krones, and plenty of the Chinese-made blow molders. We’ve standardized the connectors and wattage so you don’t have to mess around with custom brackets or “workarounds.” You just pull the dead tube out, pop the new one in, and you’re back in business. Simple as that.
