Why the materials actually matter We use high-purity quartz glass because it can take a beating. These lamps cycle on and off rapidly, and that thermal shock would crack cheaper glass. Inside, the halogen gas fill keeps the tungsten filament from evaporating too quickly. It’s a simple detail, but it’s why these lamps last longer. Some of our tubes even have a special coating. Instead of just scorching the surface of the plastic, the heat actually sinks deeper into the PET wall. It’s a much cleaner way to heat. A quick word of advice These lamps put out a massive amount of heat. A lot. Do yourself a favor and check your oven’s cooling fans. If they’re clogged with dust or just plain broken, the heat builds up around the ends of the lamp. That’s how you end up with melted sockets or cracked quartz.
