If you’re running a SIG Blomax line and feel like you’re spending half your shift replacing burnt-out IR lamps, you aren’t alone. Most people assume it’s a voltage spike or some electrical glitch. But here’s the thing: it’s usually just physics. High-speed PET blowing is brutal on equipment. The lamps expand and contract so fast that the glass just can’t keep up. Eventually, something snaps. Usually at the seal or the connector. It’s frustrating, it’s messy, and it kills your uptime. How we actually fixed it We decided to stop trying to “tweak” the standard lamps and just rebuilt them. We used reinforced quartz envelopes and messed around with the wall thickness and filament tension. The goal was simple: move the stress point. Now, when the lamp cycles through those heat spikes, it doesn’t just give up. We also stuck with high-purity quartz. Why? Because you want that shortwave radiation hitting the PET preform, not getting trapped in the glass. It keeps the heat where it belongs—in the plastic—and keeps your machine frame from baking. The nitty-gritty These are drop-in replacements. They fit the exact footprint of your original SIG gear, with the same wattage and voltage. We just changed the internal geometry to kill off those annoying hotspots. One quick heads-up, though. These lamps put out a lot of concentrated heat. If your reflectors are caked in grime or pitted, you’re just throwing energy away. Give your mirrors a good clean. Your quartz will last a lot longer if the heat is actually bouncing back into the bottle. Getting them on the floor Installing these is a breeze. You don’t need a manual or a specialized team. Just pull the dead tube, slide the reinforced one in, and wire it up. We also tightened up the tolerances on the end caps. No more loose fits, no more electrical arcing, and—best of all—no more stopping the line every few days because a bulb popped. Just a simple swap that lets you actually get back to work.
