
Getting More Out of Your PET Blow Molding Machine
If you’re running a mid-tier blow molding setup, you know the frustration of hitting a ceiling. You want more bottles per hour, but you can’t just crank up the speed. If you do, you end up with wonky wall thickness and a bunch of scrap. Usually, the culprit is your heating array. Your old bulbs are likely tired and degraded, which means they take forever to get the plastic ready. The quickest fix? Swap them out for high-output infrared elements. It shaves time off the pre-heating phase, and that’s where your real profit is hiding. The secret is heat density. To get a PET preform to that “sweet spot” where it’s ready to blow, you need to move heat into the plastic fast. We’ve tweaked our bulbs to push out more short-wave IR. By bumping up the wattage and voltage, we’re basically cramming more heat into every millimeter of the tube. It’s simple: more heat, faster cycles, more bottles. Built to actually last We don’t use flimsy glass. We use heavy-wall quartz because high heat makes cheap bulbs bow, and that ruins your consistency. We also fill them with halogen gas. This does a clever little trick where it pushes evaporated tungsten back onto the filament. Instead of the wire thinning out and snapping, it stays strong. And about the connectors—we use R7s or SK15. Why? Because they fit tight. A loose connection is a nightmare; it creates resistance, the socket gets scorching hot, and then the whole thing fails. These are drop-in replacements, so you won’t have to spend your weekend rewiring the entire oven. The “Catch” (Because there’s always one) Look, more heat isn’t magic. It comes with a trade-off. If you move to high-wattage bulbs, your machine is going to pull more power. Before you swap everything, just double-check that your wiring and power supply can handle the extra load. Also, remember that more heat in the oven means your cooling fans have to work harder. If your fans are old or undersized, the machine frame will start to soak up all that ambient heat. If the oven gets too hot overall, your bulbs will actually burn out faster. Keep it cool, and you’re golden.
