Getting the Heat Right, Every Single Time
If you’re running a KHS stretch blow molding line, you know the heater bulb is where the magic starts. It’s the first line of defense against a bad bottle. The Krones Ergomodul 1 heater bulb was built to be a direct replacement for those machines, plain and simple. Its whole job? Give your PET preform a steady, even heat so it stretches right and the walls end up the perfect thickness. We set this unit up to run on400V, packing2500Wof power into a300mmlength. That’s a lot of heat in a small space, and it’s exactly what you need to get the preform hot fast enough to keep up with high-speed production. But here’s the catch: that kind of power demands your machine’s electrical system and cooling to be up to the task. If the cooling can’t keep pace, the air around the heater starts to bake. That heat will chew through the bulb’s lifespan faster than you’d like.
The Secret Sauce in the Coating
The Ergomodul 1 uses a shortwave infrared halogen design. The quartz envelope has a special coating that filters the heat, focusing the energy right where PET absorbs it best. The payoff? Less wasted heat, and you don’t end up scorching the surface of the preform. Swapping it in is no drama, either. It uses anR7sconnector—the standard double-ended socket. So you can replace the bulb without rewiring the whole heating block. The build is tough enough to handle the machine’s constant vibration, but just make sure the socket stays clean. A little grit in there can cause arcing.
What It Feels Like on the Floor
Out on the line, the Ergomodul 1 is a straight drop-in. It solves the headache of uneven heating that plagues KHS blow molders. You get a thermal field you can count on, which means fewer rejects and less downtime spent chasing temperature swings. But that power comes with a trade-off. Packing 2500W into 300mm gives you that lightning-fast heat-up, but you absolutely have to make sure the blow molder’s cooling system is ready for it. Keep an eye on the temperature around the heater. If the cooling is undersized, the bulb will run hotter than it was designed to, and you’ll find yourself replacing them way too often. For the engineers, the Ergomodul 1 is just a reliable, spec-compliant heat source that keeps the line moving. It matches the original footprint and electrical requirements, so you can swap it in and get straight back to making product.
